Espaço Artemyn: A new chapter of community connection

Artemyn extracts and processes kaolin ore in Ipixuna and Barcarena municipalities, in Brazil, and maintains a house in Barcarena, dedicated exclusively to community engagement and social development. Previously called “Casa Imerys”, the current “Espaço Artemyn” reaffirms the company’s commitment to transforming lives and strengthening ties with local communities.

“We have a program aimed at neighboring communities focused on environmental education, basic education, professional training and health,” explains Fábio Assmann, Socioeconomic Coordinator at Artemyn.

The house has been in operating since 2012 to the communities of Acuí, Bairro Industrial, Canaã, Curuperé, Vila do Conde and Ilha São João. The activities carried out go far beyond a physical center, being a meeting and learning point that directly impacts the lives of the residents of these locations. Artisan Miguelzinha Mourão Souza began working at the location in 2019 and says that she is currently working with pallets, but has already participated in workshops on ribbon bows, soaps and homemade seasonings, as well as food production courses.

“Participating in the workshops has brought me many improvements, not only in terms of entrepreneurship but also in terms of academic support. It is important to emphasize how necessary these activities are in our community and I can say that this work has brought great improvements to our municipality”, highlighted Miguelzinha Mourão.

In 2024, 335 people were certified in educational and training programs offered by Espaço Artemyn. The initiatives include tutoring, digital inclusion and sustainable entrepreneurship, considered important areas to be worked on with the communities. This year alone, 75 children improved their knowledge of Portuguese and mathematics, strengthening their educational foundation. 240 students completed courses in Basic and Advanced Computing and Digital Tools for Business, obtaining training for the job market, and 14 women participated in pallet craft workshops, reusing industrial waste to create sustainable decorative products and generate income.

For Flávia Souza, Community Relations Analyst at Artemyn, the experience is enriching: “Being part of a project that certifies more than 300 people with initiatives that generate positive changes is very inspiring. It makes us believe in building increasingly stronger bonds between the company and the community, both respecting each other and together seeking a more satisfying social life.”
